Equality & Human Rights
Mental Health Providers Forum (MHPF) has a commitment to the principles of equality and diversity, from our policies through to the work that we do with our members and the wider sector.
Our Recovery Star Model and Cultural Competency research, funded by the Delivering Race Equality in Mental Health programme (DRE) was one of our high profile projects. It addressed the cultural relevance of the Recovery Star for use with clients from diverse backgrounds and modified the model accordingly.
In a period post-NMHDU (National Mental Health Development Unit), where we’ve also seen the delivery of a new mental health strategy, our work continues to diversify.
In Health and Social Care our focus is now on how, cross-organisationally and with the Department of Health, we can collaborate to keep equalities and human rights embedded in all of our work.
This will ensure that mental health strategies and policies that promote equality/reduce inequality for all, including across the protected characteristics, continue to translate into practice.
MHPF equality and human rights focussed work is two-fold:
- to strategically input to the wider equalities and human rights in mental health agenda
- to support and promote equalities and human rights focussed work by our members and the sector
Current work and initiatives that we are a part of:
- Pilot site for the BIHR Health and Human Rights project
- Member of and input to RawOrg (Rights and Wellbeing for Racialised Groups) think tank
- Via the Department of Health Third Sector Strategic Partnership programme, input to the NHS Equality and Diversity Council and wider Department of Health equality work
- Via the Department of Health Third Sector Strategic Partnership programme, input to wider voluntary sector equality-focussed joint working
