Mental Health Providers Forum (MHPF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Carolyn Steele as the organisation’s new Chair.

Professor Steele who takes over from Elaine Parker-Johnson, Chief Executive of Forum member Making Space, was formally appointed at the 2009 MHPF Annual General Meeting which took place in December.

Professor Carolyn Steele said:

"Thank you for inviting me to be Chair, as people who know me know I’m very pleased – I’ve had a long relationship with the 3rd sector and I look forward to working with the Board to raise the profile of excellent work of the Forum and the sector as a whole as it continues to go from strength to strength."

Judy Weleminsky, Chief Executive of MHPF, said

"We are delighted to have Professor Steele joining us at this exciting stage in our development as we take forward so many exciting initiatives promoting recovery and highlighting the leading edge role of the voluntary sector. We are very grateful for the great leadership and support provided by Elaine Parker-Johnson over the last two years as our Chair and I know that Carolyn will build on this sound foundation and further raise our profile."

Most recently Professor Steele was Director for 3rd Sector Partnership for the Department of Health (DH)/the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP). Amongst her many achievements, she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Mental Health Helplines Partnership (mhhp). This created the first national umbrella body for organisations providing helpline services to people with mental health needs, their carers and people who treat them. Professor Steele has been appointed for a two-year tenure.
